Meetings Show 13th – 15th June 2017, London Olympia
With The Meetings Show celebrating its 5th year this year, 3000 attendees, 700 suppliers all under one roof I would definitely recommend planning some time to keep that little black book up-to-date.
The fully-hosted buyer can look forward to return travel to London, overnight accommodation, networking functions plus the hosted buyer lounges with complimentary refreshments and lunch to name just a few perks! Or if popping in a for a few hours suits the diary better, perhaps a semi-hosted buyer might be an alternative option making use of some of the above. I am often asked about London exhibitions – which ones are worth spending time at to attend as a buyer as well as venues asking for suggestions on which ones are worth spending money on to exhibit at.
I do like The Meetings Show for the variance of venues exhibiting, in particular, the European suppliers in addition to the UK market. For me, I get to catch up with lots of wonderful venues, new and old for the venue finding side. Sometimes I will arrange meetings with clients or loosely catch up with those in my network with regards to the projects I am working on plus it’s a great way to walk the show to see if it is worthwhile exhibiting or sharing a stand for venues I am working with. In addition, I can do a bit of research for further projects due to come on board, but more on those another time!
As an exhibitor, it costs thousands for the stand, preparation, manpower and follow up. Often, there is a quick expectancy on ROI in the form of confirmed enquiries ideally within the first 3-6 months but in reality, it can take longer and sometimes up to a couple of years before the full ROI is realised. I think ROA (Return on awareness) should also be a factor.
Attending as a buyer
As an event buyer I find checking out the Exhibitor List before my visit helps to plan as much as I can, with so many fantastic Hotels, Venues, DMC (Destination Management Companies), Travel companies, Air Travel, Technology providers I really want to get the most out of my time at the show. Being a hosted buyer helps put you at the front of the queue by organising an appointment time with those you want to spend quality time with using the online diary.
Then, of course, there are over 80 free fantastic seminars on the Education Programme Personally, I’m finding it hard to choose! There’s ‘The state of the Meetings Industry Today’ delivered by Grass Roots. ‘Venue Negotiation – It’s not all about price’ delivered by Eventful and JT Sales Solutions. ‘The Pros and Cons of Working for Yourself’ delivered by Helmsbriscoe, not to mention the social media, technical and industry related topics!
Finally, after a busy day of seminars, appointments and catch ups, what better way than to enjoy a well-deserved drink at one of the many networking events or showcases being hosted all over London. A fantastic way to experience first hand the best of what our lovely industry can offer.
